To understand Enjolras it's important to first understand the time frame he comes from. Born to a rich family in France, post French Revolution, Enjolras was exposed to the rich man's ways early on in life. While little is know about his actual family, it's known that he resented his father and the manipulation of his wealth - the way his family could eat their fill while the poor starved on the streets. Simply said, Enjolras became independent the moment he was able, and from then on he lived solely for France and for the revolution. He relinquished his right on his father's wealth and instead chose to live as one of the poorer folk.

Even still, Enjolras is a student, and it's in university that he rounds a group of similar revolutionaries who fight for his cause. Enjolras becomes the unofficial leader of the Les Amis de ABC - his passion dictates a very dedicated aspect about himself - because the members of the group, while all very loyal young men, are not nearly as entirely captivated as Enjolras. Others have social lives, have mistresses and days off, while Enjolras is just work all the time. His entire life is the revolution, and he even goes far enough to say that France herself is his mistress, Patria.

Enjolras is an idealist and an optimist, and he has only faith when it comes to his country and his people. Patriotism puts it lightly. Enjolras ends up paying the ultimate price for the land he loves, and he would do so again and again, without regret. He believes his life means little to nothing when compared to the greatness of France - and literally dies with a smile on his face, at standing up against injustice and fighting the good fight.

Morality is an important characteristic to Enjolras, because while he is good, he recognizes that bad things can accomplish higher goals. Death is something to use to their advantage - namely, the death of their enemies, but their own as well. Send a message, as Enjolras uses to his advantage. Mainly he has a political, fast-thinking and capable mind. He fights for every individual's basic human rights, yes, but he is more than willing to make the monarchy bleed while he gets the chance.

So, in saying he's good, I mean that yes, he fights for a decent cause, for the equality of all men. However, the most famous quote in reference to Enjolras in the book is, "Enjolras was a charming man, capable of being terrible." Because yes, he is a terrible man. Fearless and ferocious, without a hint of self-doubt. He is a cruel man, a capable man, but he is good, without a single a doubt.

Charm becomes him in many ways. He has a silver tongue, from years of preparing speeches and rounding up members to join their cause - speaking to random groups of citizens and enabling more people to get angry with the government and how their country is being run. This isn't hurt from the fact that Enjolras is angelic in his features - plenty of times he's called chaste and womanly, with soft features but a sharp gaze. Enjolras' beauty is something not skimmed over in the book.

Neither is his chastity, which is to say that he is very much a virgin, despite his age and his looks. Socially, and outside his group of friends, Enjolras is nearly a hermit. His life is entirely for the revolution, and he doesn't have the time to spare worrying about sex, family, or friends. Obsession would be a better word than dedication - he is obsessed with France, with injustices and righting wrongs, he honestly has no life apart from it. The book reads that, exaggerating, Enjolras doesn't even know what a woman is - he's that ruled by his cause.

Enjolras is the kind of man who sticks to his word, and says what he means. He's a very honest man, never making promises he doesn't think he can keep. Of course, he always knew in their revolution that they would, in all likeliness, die, but he never honestly gave a thought that the people of France would not stand up for themselves. He promised each and every man that the people would rise, thinking that there was no doubt anywhere that they may not.

With a strategic mind and overall high intelligence, Enjolras is a man of very few weaknesses. He has a short fused temper for though who test it, though he has proven himself heartily patient for all other instances. He's a man who believes in mainly everything - believes in each individual person, with faith leaking out of his pores. He is very nearly naive in his actions, despite knowing the cruelties of the world - his optimism also makes him ignorant, not unlike a child.

Despite being seen as an infallible marble statue, Enjolras doesn't see himself as any better than anyone else - it would, after all, be directly against the equality he fights for. He is man and citizen, before all and anything else.

Upon arrival, Enjolras' character will make certain drastic changes - he is, after all, taken after the fall of the barricade, and therefore after all his life's work has amounted to nothing. He won't be especially interested in helping out, begrudged that even in the afterlife he isn't permitted rest. However, the note he receives when arriving (namely the part about saving the land from where he came) will elicit certain protective natures over his France. Therefore, after just a little bit of being depressed, he will go back to helping and contributing in anyway that he can, perhaps a little distraught to have such an indirect effect on France.

Citizens—

I come to you with arms spread, head up-tilted towards the heavens - or what rises above the heavens, I'm inclined to believe. The story this "Loki" has told me is, ultimately, difficult to believe but—

[ He sighs, like this is truly a try against his patience, shaking his head while golden locks frame his face. ]

But what choice is there, I will be told. I've come to rest and I find myself tangled in yet another war, in another place, in a world I care little about. If I do not fight, will I be sent back to the world I know, to rot beneath the dirt? Would God permit me this mercy? [ He clucks his tongue, cruelly, shaking his head with the way the words roll deliberately off his tongue. ] God, mercy. Neither exists.

[ He hears chants of you were wrong, you were entirely and completely wrong ringing freely in his ears, and this moment of self-loathing is brought on solely by the thought that Enjolras led his friends, his brothers, all to an early grave - and yet, where are they? When he needs them most, he's been kept from them. ]

It seems, even despite the evil that plagues, there is still no need for Satan, no need of Michael, for their names mean none in the light of this world. This after life — ha! To think of how we worship, led astray, and the glory of His kingdom is only another life anew. The cold grave I must have been buried in would be warmer, would it not, Heimdall?

[ He pauses, thinking again. This is not a speech led by his usual passionate retorts and screams - it's instead a reflection of his utter confusion, how truly lost he finds himself. ]

Then, I am named Enjolras. It's better than the number that would wait below, were I to go back. [ His finger hesitate to turn the feed off, only for a moment. ] Au revoir.
